About the project

The Bloordale Memory Map is a “living” map of Bloordale that highlights places of personal importance in a rapidly changing neighborhood. The project asks participants to choose a sticker printed with an archival image (sourced from the Toronto Archives or the Bloor/Gladstone Library’s local history collection) or a recent image of the neighborhood in the present day, and mark a place on a map of the neighborhood that carries strong memories for them.

The project aims to commemorate Toronto School of Art’s time in the Bloordale community, and explore the neighborhood’s path into the future. The reconstruction of the historic Kent School Building at the corner of Bloor and Dufferin, Toronto School of Art’s current home, into a new community hub will mean rapid changes in the landscape of Bloordale.

The Bloordale Memory Map aims to explore the infusion of the personal into the act of documentation, and capture the experiences of the community on the axis of change.
